Why am I seeing ads on this Blog?

I have never arranged for any advertisements here. But sometimes recently, when I click on a post, I get a timed ad and have to wait some seconds. I have no idea what is going on. If any of my readers observe the same thing and can figure out where the ad is coming from, please let me know.

I just clicked through all your front page posts and didn't get any ads. It may be worth checking your end as well, as browser extensions injecting ads seems to be a common problem these days.

It maybe that your computer is infected and an extension has been added to your browser which allows unwanted ads to appear. I had this problem and the only way I could fix it was with a program called Spyhunter. It is not free. However download it and run it and if it finds an infection you then can decide whether you wish to purchase it as that is the only way it will delete the infection.

Never seen any adds here either.

Download, install Firefox web browser. Ctrl-Shift-A on Windows to get to add-ons manager, Cmd-Shift-A on OS X (I believe). Search for "Ublock Origin." Allow the add-on to install. (You could install the Chrome web browser for nearly the same effect, but I prefer Firefox)

That should take care of most in-browser (javascript, etc.) ads, if you use Firefox as your main web browser henceforth. But, you might have adware installed somewhere on your system, which would require some kind of anti-virus/anti-malware software to remove. The on-system-somewhere-adware would be more likely on a Windows machine.

Also, before throwing away money on anti-malware/anti-virus software, try some well-known freeware alternatives first to see if your problem is resolved, should the in-browser adblock not work.

I've used Spybot Search and Destroy in the past, and the company is recommended by Steve Gibson (Google Steve Gibson computer programmer), cryptologist and computer security guru. To download Spybot Search and Destroy: https://www.safer-networking.org/dl/

Also, if you have Windows 8 or later, you have an anti-virus already installed.

If you have Windows before Windows 8, you may download Windows Security Essentials as your anti-virus. Windows Security Essentials is run by Microsoft and is slim on resources use. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download

Or, you could really be cool and run a distribution of Linux.

Do you see this exact type of ad on any other sites besides your blog?

It might be related to what I told you about last month, which is that when I Command-Click your link from my RSS reader (to open the post in another tab), I sometimes find that it goes to a totally different site showing me an ad. I think you've got something injecting JavaScript into your page.

I suspect the infection theory may be correct, David. I know that I see no ads on your blog.

Do you have Sitemeter installed, but hidden? (The URL comes up when the page is reloaded.) If so, that's likely the source of your problem. Search for Sitemeter popups, etc.

I just clicked through a bunch of your posts as well and I didn't get any ads, so perhaps it's a problem on your end? Hope this helps.

I have this problem too. From http://daviddfriedman.blogspot.com/, I frequently get redirected to http://gogardenclub.com/

Supporting evidence for Mark's suggestion that Sitemeter is likely the source of the problem: http://sbvor.blogspot.com/2015/05/if-like-me-you-still-use-this-long.html

Disable javascript and see what happens

Not an infection. There's an occasional click through ad on your site. I usually read your blog via RSS, so I've no idea when this started happening. I suspect blogger shenanigans.

I was sent to this site when I tried to come here just now. h t t p ://go.goadvs.com/ It's the third time it has happened to me here.

The ad thing happens to me too. In fact, for a while I wasn't able to view the blog at all, as I kept getting redirected. It doesn't seem to be a problem on my phone, though.

I'm not seeing the ads. But I have sitemeter blocked.

In my experience Spyhunter borders on being a scam. Even on a clean machine it seems to find a bunch of non-problems and then charges to fix them. Better to use Superantispyware (despite the scammy sounding name) or MalwareBytes.
